The Cuddalore New Town police have arrested a woman in connection with a house break-in case at Vadakupalayam on August 13.

The police identified the accused as Shamsad alias Mariam Biwi, 36, of Thiyagadurgam in Kallakurichi district.

On August 13, after Selvaraj, 52, and his wife Banumathi left for work, Mariam Biwi allegedly broke open into the house and decamped with 21 sovereigns of gold jewellery and ₹10,000 in cash. Based on a complaint, the New Town police took up investigation.

The police perused the CCTV camera footage in the locality and arrested the accused during a vehicle check in New Town on Saturday. The jewellery was recovered from her. She was produced before a local court and remanded in custody.
