An Indian Navy sailor, his wife and two minor children were found dead at their official accommodation residence at Navy Nagar in Mumbai’s Colaba, police said on Sunday (August 16, 2026).

The local police and naval authorities have begun a probe into the deaths after the bodies of the family of four were recovered on Saturday night (August 15, 2026).

Naval security personnel and the Mumbai police were notified after the family did not respond to telephone calls. The subsequent check of the quarters resulted in the recovery of the bodies.

A statement from the Indian Navy confirmed that the police have registered the case and initiated an inquiry. The official residence has been sealed, and a forensic team has examined the premises.

“We are providing all assistance to the civil police in their investigation,” a Navy representative said. The authorities have stated that the identities of the deceased and the circumstances leading to the event will be determined after the postmortem examination and the receipt of forensic reports.

The site remains under police guard, and further details are expected upon the completion of the autopsy.
