Leaders of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Saturday condemned BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran’s remarks targeting Chief Minister and TVK leader C. Joseph Vijay, describing them as personal and unbecoming of a senior politician.

Mr. Nagenthran, addressing a political gathering, had made a personal jibe at Mr. Vijay, while referring to his remarks in the Assembly. Reacting to these comments, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan said the BJP leader’s standing in the political space was steadily declining.

Good governance

Health Minister K.G. Arunraj said the government would answer criticism through its performance rather than words. He said the government had been focusing on providing good governance over the past three months and would continue to demonstrate its work through its policies and actions. He said Mr. Nagenthran was making such remarks out of frustration and an attempt to draw public attention.

School Education Minister P. Rajmohan also criticised Mr. Nagenthran, saying his comments were not befitting a political leader of his stature. He said public representatives should exercise restraint and speak with dignity, particularly while holding a responsible position.

Mr. Rajmohan said the TVK would not respond to such remarks in the same manner and would continue to follow what he described as “decent politics” under Mr. Vijay’s leadership.

He added that the party would maintain this approach even if its political opponents continued to make provocative or personal remarks.
