Several establishments, including factories, shops, and residences in rural areas and colonies, hoisted the national flag as part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, following the relaxation of Flag Code rules, on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day across Srikakulam and Vizianagaram on Saturday (August 15, 2026).

As opposed to the usual practice of hoisting the flag at the Collector’s office, courts, schools, and colleges, this year has been a different experience for the residents. Almost every colony and area in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram displayed the Indian flags flying high. Many expressed their happiness over hoisting the flag at their homes and establishments.”

SSR Charitable Trust founder and industrialist Sura Srinivasa Rao thanked the Union government for relaxing the norms for the Independence Day celebrations. “We used to go to Srikakulam Government Degree College to participate in the celebrations. Now, we celebrated at Navabharat Junction, Thotapalem, and Polytechnic College Road, Srikakulam,” said Mr. Srinivasa Rao.

Arya Vysya Sangham president of Vizianagaram Ravva Srinivas, secretary Kapuganti Ravi and others hoisted the flag on the terrace of Sri Kanyakaparameswari temple located in GT Road of Fort City.

A professor from MBA College, Penki Ravikumar, along with others, hoisted flags at Arikathota in the Ramabhadrapuram mandal of Vizianagaram district. They engaged in charitable activities on this occasion. “Until the year 2002, there were many restrictions on hoisting the Indian flag in public places, such as it needing to be hoisted only between sunrise and sunset, and only hand-spun or hand-woven flags being permitted for Independence Day, Republic Day, and other patriotic occasions. However, people should also respect the flag according to the rules and regulations and ensure that it does not touch the ground at any cost,” Dr. Ravikumar said.
