The Kalaburagi Runners Club has called upon residents of the city to participate in the Independence Day Unity Walk to be held on August 16 to promote fitness, health awareness and a sense of unity among citizens.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, club members Nitin Jawali and Raju Kanta said the event was aimed at encouraging young people to adopt an active and healthy lifestyle. They stressed the importance of regular physical activity and said body movement was essential for maintaining fitness and preventing lifestyle-related health problems.

Mr. Jawali and Mr. Kanta explained the health benefits of walking, including improved physical fitness and overall well-being. They urged people of all age groups to make walking a regular part of their daily routine.

The unity walk, organised under the theme “Celebrate Freedom through Fitness”, will begin from the Mini Vidhana Soudha at 6 a.m. and cover a distance of about 5 km.

Kiran Deshmukh said the initiative sought to link the spirit of Independence Day with the importance of personal health and fitness. He encouraged citizens to participate in the walk in large numbers and make fitness a collective movement in the city.

The organisers appealed to residents, particularly youngsters, to join the event and celebrate Independence Day through a healthy and active lifestyle.
