The Tirupattur police destroyed over 3,100 kg of gutkha products that had been seized mostly in the tribal areas of the district on Wednesday (August 12, 2026).

The police said that as part of continuous action to curb the smuggling and use of gutkha products, Superintendent of Police Akshay Anil Wakhare has ordered the destruction of the seized tobacco products.

The police said the seized contraband was destroyed at an open plot in Kottapattu village near Vaniyambadi town after getting the necessary permissions from the court.

The gutkha products had been confiscated in multiple enforcement operations and during vehicle checks within the limits of police stations such as Tirupattur, Yelagiri Hills, Pudur Nadu, Kandali, Amballur, Kavalur, Vaniyambadi, and Jolarpet in the district.

The disposal process was conducted after strictly following legal and environmental norms at the spot where seized products were destroyed.
