A 31-year-old collapsed and died during the Nandi Hills monsoon marathon held on Sunday (August 9) at Nandi Hills.

The marathon was organised by the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Bengaluru Rural Administration, and private companies including J.J. Active and DivyaSree’s Whispers of the Wind. The event was flagged off by G. Parameshwara, Minister for Youth Empowerment and Sports.

The event featured two categories: the 21.1k half marathon and the 10k run.

According to police officials, Amandeep Singh Jagade had registered for the 21.1k half marathon category and had completed most of the run.

A senior police official said, “When he collapsed, volunteers and organisers rushed him to the Sree Madhusudhan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Muddenahalli. However, doctors were unable to revive him and declared him dead. Doctors suspect the death was caused by a sudden cardiac arrest. Family members have been informed, and a post-mortem is being conducted. The body will be handed over to the family after the procedure.”

The police officials stated that the deceased originally hailed from Punjab and was working at a private company in Bengaluru. The event organisers had not issued an official statement about the incident at the time of going to print.
