The State government has transferred Road Safety Commissioner Yogesh Gupta as the Managing Director of the Kerala State Beverages Corporation (BEVCO), while assigning Additional Director General of Police (Armed Police Battalions) Balram Kumar Upadhyay the full additional charge of Director General of Fire and Rescue Services following the retirement of Nitin Agrawal on Friday.

The posting marks a return to BEVCO for Mr. Gupta, who had earlier headed the State-run liquor retailing corporation before being shifted to the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau and later appointed Road Safety Commissioner during a series of top-level police reshuffles.

The position has remained vacant for over a week since the suspension of ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar. Disciplinary action had been initiated against the senior IPS officer over allegations that he attempted to interfere with the investigation into the alleged assault on Youth Congress workers by the former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s security personnel during the Nava Kerala Sadas outreach programme in Alappuzha in 2023.
