Flood threat continues in A.P. as Krishna, Godavari remain swollen

The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has issued continued flood alerts as the Krishna and Godavari rivers remain swollen following heavy inflows.

As per the latest data available on Monday (September 29, 2025), the Prakasam Barrage across the Krishna in Vijayawada recorded a surplus of 6,12,325 cusecs of water.

The authorities released 5,557 cusecs of water into the KE Main Canal, 4,513 cusecs into KW Main Canal, and 10,070 cusecs into other canals, bringing the total realised inflows to 6,22,395 cusecs.

The water level at the Prakasam Barrage stood at 15.5 feet, with the second flood warning still in force. The inflows and outflows were recorded at 6,86,074 cusecs at 4 a.m. on Monday and the water level stood at 16.4 feet. 

Meanwhile, the Godavari River witnessed heavy inflows. The river at Bhadrachalam in Telangana recorded a water level of 44.4 feet, while the inflows and outflows at the Dowleswaram Barrage in Rajamahendravaram were recorded at 9,80,447 cusecs.

With the water levels receding, the first flood warning for the Godavari was withdrawn. To augment the relief operations, two National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and three State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been deployed in the vulnerable areas.

The authorities urged the residents living in low-lying areas along the Krishna and Godavari rivers to remain vigilant and avoid crossing overflowing streams, canals, or inundated roads.

“Residents living in the flood-prone areas must exercise caution as the situation remains critical,” said APSDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain.
