The J&K police on Friday (August 7, 2026) opened fire and arrested one local after a car jumped a check-point in J&K’s Ramban district on Friday.

A police officer said a vehicle jumped a checkpoint in Ramban’s Chanderkote area. “A black Scorpio was asked to stop in Chanderkote but the driver and his associates sped up. A constable after gauging the situation fired three rounds of warning shot,” said the police officer.

The police said the abandoned car was later spotted and one accused, identified as Altaf Muhammad, a resident of Udhampur, was arrested. Forensic evidence was collected from the vehicle for further investigation, the police added.

The police lodged an FIR under section 109 (attempt to murder) and 132 (assault to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
