The South Western Railway has decided to cancel day train services on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru/Karwar sector for a month in October to provide line block for tamping work and material train movement on the Sakleshpur-Subrahmanya Road Ghat section.
However, the services would be operated during the Navarathri/ Dasara holidays so as to not inconvenience holiday travellers. The cancelled services include Train No. 16515/516 Yeshwantpur-Karwar-Yeshwantpur tri-weekly, Train No. 16575/576 Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction-Mangaluru Junction Gomateshwara tri-weekly and Train No. 16539/540 Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction-Mangaluru Junction weekly express services.
Services of Yeshwantpur – Mangaluru Junction/ Karwar tri-weekly express and Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction weekly express will be cancelled for a month in October.

Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd., (KRCL) and Southern Railway have said Train No. 16575 Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction Gomateshwara Express remains cancelled on October 4, 6, 8, 11, 13, 15, 22, 25, 27, 29, November 1 and 3. Train No. 16576 Mangaluru Junction-Yeshwantpur Gomateshwara Express remains cancelled on October 5, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 23, 26, 28, 30, November 2 and 4.
Train No. 16515 Yeshwantpur-Karwar Express would be cancelled on October 5, 7, 9, 12, 14, 21, 23, 26, 28, 30 and November 2. Train No. 16516 Karwar-Yeshwantpur Express would be cancelled on October 6, 8, 10, 13, 15, 22, 24, 27, 29, 31 and November 3. Train No. 16539 Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction weekly Express remains cancelled on October 10, 24 and 31 while Train No. 16540 Mangaluru Junction-Yeshwantpur weekly Express would be cancelled on October 11, 25 and November 1.
Long overdue
Divisional Railway Manager of Mysuru Division Mudit Mittal, in whose jurisdiction the line block is effected, told The Hindu that the ballast tamping work was long overdue between Yadakumari-Siribagilu stations on the Ghat section, where landslip too had occurred recently.
“This was the least amount of time required for tamping and other works,” he said when asked about the very long duration of cancellation. Further, services would be operated during the Navaratri/ Dasara holidays, he noted.
Ballast have become uneven in the section requiring movement of the Multi-purpose Tamper Machine every day. Progress of tamping would be very slow.
The Railways waited till the closure of advance reservation window to cancel the services, thereby minimising inconvenience to travellers, the DRM added.
Six months cancelled
The SWR had cancelled the day train services from June to December 15, 2025, to facilitate Railway Electrification work on this Ghat section.
