The Kozhikode City police have taken into custody Adith Joseph, 29, a native of Kasaragod, Kerala, who was residing at one of the flats in Nellikode, Kozhikode, for allegedly assaulting woman Sub-Inspector N. Leela, attached to the Nadakkavu police station.

According to the police, while Ms. Leela and her team were on patrolling duty, they spotted the accused smoking near the parking area close to a beverages outlet in the evening on Sunday (August 2). When she called him over to the police vehicle, the accused leaned inappropriately close to her face to speak.

When instructed to step back, he declared, “We shall deal with this legally,” before seizing the Sub-Inspector’s left hand and forcefully twisting it, causing severe injuries to her arm.

Cases have been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The accused, who previously worked as an accountant in Kozhikode, is now unemployed. He has existing cases registered against him at the Town Police station for public nuisance, as well as at the Nadakkavu Police station for allegedly assaulting a student from Kundamangalam.

Following a formal recording of his arrest, the accused was later was produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court-IV (JFCM-IV) and remanded in custody.
