In a significant step towards empowering persons with disabilities, the AP Red Cross Society, in collaboration with Rotary International and supported by the Tangience Foundation, USA, organised a special prosthetic hand-fitting camp in Guntur on Sunday (August 2, 2026). The camp provided advanced imported LN4 prosthetic hands to around 200 beneficiaries, helping them regain independence and improve their quality of life.
The beneficiaries were identified after extensive outreach by Red Cross teams across Guntur, Krishna, Prakasam and West Godavari districts. Of the applicants screened, 255 persons who had lost their hands or forearms in accidents or because of congenital conditions were found eligible for prosthetic hand fitting.
Organisers said the LN4 prosthetic hands would enable users to perform routine tasks independently, boosting their confidence and opening opportunities for education, employment and sustainable livelihoods. Beneficiaries are also receiving practical training on the proper use and maintenance of the devices to ensure effective adaptation.
Expressing gratitude, beneficiaries said the prosthetic hands would help them overcome physical limitations and lead more self-reliant and productive lives.
The programme was attended by Rotary District 3150 Governor Rtn. Uday Sudhir Pilani, AP Red Cross Chairman Y.D. Rama Rao, General Secretary A.K. Parida, Guntur Red Cross Chairman Rtn. Vadlamani Ravi, AP Red Cross Vice Chairman Rtn. P. Ramachandra Raju and other dignitaries.
The organisers described the camp as the first of its kind this year and announced plans to conduct similar camps across all districts in Andhra Pradesh by year-end to provide prosthetic hands to every eligible beneficiary on a saturation basis.
