The rain that has been falling continuously in Kochi since Sunday night is continuing into Monday morning.

Although the intensity of the rain has subsided considerably, moderate heavy rain continues to affect the State, disrupting normal pace of life in areas that witnessed torrential downpours over the past two days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for the entire State on Monday (August 3, 2026), warning of isolated heavy rainfall.
The IMD has also issued a warning for several districts in south and central Kerala, forecasting heavy rain accompanied by strong surface winds of up to 40 kmph from Sunday (August 2, 2026) midnight to Monday (August 3, 2026) morning.
Meanwhile, a flash flood warning has been issued for Pathanamthitta, where intense rainfall was recorded over the past couple of days. The warning has been issued for people living along the banks of rivers, especially the Pamba River.
In view of the prevailing heavy rain, Sabarimala pilgrims are not being allowed to enter Pampa as part of safety precaution. The police have been regulating pilgrim vehicles at Erumeli and Nilakkal. Vehicles will be allowed to proceed after a review of the situation on Monday morning, the authorities said.
Road traffic was disrupted at several places in Idukki after minor mudslides blocked roads. Uprooted trees also fell on power lines, disrupting power supply in parts of the district. Night travel has been banned on the Neryamangalam–Adimali stretch owing to the possibility of landslide.
The shutters of the Kakkayam Dam in Kozhikode have been opened. As a result, the water level in the Kuttiadi River is expected to rise by 30 cm to 150 cm above the existing level, the district administration warned.
Educational institutes declare holiday
A holiday has been declared for educational institutions in 12 districts on Monday (August 3, 2026) — Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan will chair an online emergency meeting at 10 a.m. on Monday (August 3, 2026) to assess the situation arising from the continued heavy rains across various districts of the State.
District Collectors, the Ministers for Home and Revenue, Ministers-in-charge of the Districts, and the Chief Secretary will attend the meeting. It will review the rain-related damage across the State, the functioning of relief camps, precautionary measures, and the coordination of rescue operations. The Chief Minister is also expected to issue further directions to deal with the situation after the meeting.
