Hydel generation at Jurala Hydro-Electric Station and at Lower Jurala Hydro-Electric Project has commenced on Monday night, almost two months late compared to last year, as the Jurala reservoir started getting some notable flood from the upstream only from the early hours of Sunday.
The two hydel stations of TG-Genco have generated 70 million units of energy together on Monday and continued operation or generation on Tuesday too, as a sustained flood in the measure of about 20,000 cusecs continued to the project from the upstream.
According to the Genco authorities, they had commenced hydel generation at the two stations in the last week of May itself in 2025 as the project had received early flood. “Even the spillway discharge of flood from Jurala was taken up on May 29 itself last year, while it was taken up in July in seven previous years,” a project engineer of Jurala said on Tuesday.
In May and June 2025, Jurala had received a flood of nearly 134 tmc of water, while Srisailam got over 64 tmc ft of flood in the two months. However, Srisailam reservoir has not even one-fifth of its storage so far this year as it stood at 41.28 tmc ft as on Tuesday morning against its full capacity of 215.81 tmc ft. Jurala has received about over 9 tmc ft water against 6 by Srisailam so far this year.
