Canbank Q1 net profit up 2.19% at ₹4856 cr.

Canara Bank on Monday posted a first quarter (FY27) net profit of ₹4856 crore, a 2.19% increase over the ₹4,752 crore it reported in the corresponding quarter a year ago.

Net Interest Income (NII) crossed the ₹10,000 crore mark for the first time ever, finishing the quarter at ₹10,215 crore, posting a 13.39% growth over ₹9,009 crore a year ago, according to the lender’s new MD & CEO Brajesh Kumar Singh.

Its net interest income (NII) grew 13.39% YoY ₹10,215 crore, while total income rose 4.26% to ₹39,684 crore. Global business grew ₹ 29,05,066 crore at 14.37% YoY; global deposits stood ₹16,11,685 crore rose by 11.63% and global advances stood at ₹12,93,381 crore up by 17.97%.

Domestic Deposit of the Bank stood at ₹14,73,447 crore as at June 2026 with growth of 10.06% (yoy); Domestic Groess Advances at ₹12,07,087 crore grew by 16.95%. Also, RAM credit increased by 21.20% to ₹ 7,64,675 crore. RAM (Retail, Agriculture, and MSME) credit increased by 21.20% to ₹ 7,64,675 crore. Retail lending portfolio increased by 35.88% to ₹3,19,893 crore and housing loan segment grew by 17.85% to ₹1,29,036 crore.

“We have seem good traction for credit across segments such as agriculture, MSME, education and corporates in the quarter,’’ Mr. Singh commented adding. “Going forward, we see good traction in gold.”

On asset quality, the bank said, its gross non-performing assets (GNPA) ratio improved to 1.57%, from 1.84% sequentially and 2.69% YoY. Also, net NNPA ratio improved to 0.36%, down from 0.43% sequentially and 0.63% YoY.

The bank’s overall target is to mobilise $2.3 billion to $2.5 billion; an aggregate goal spanning multiple channels via deposits and overseas borrowings. The bank has already brought in $775 million and expects to cross $1 billion mark by the end of July 2026. Out of the total guidance, the bank specifically aims to raise $1.3 billion to $1.5 billion through the FCNR(B) deposit route September this year.

Meanwhile, the remaining portion would be covered by raising $1 billion through overseas foreign currency borrowings (OFCBs), divided equally, $500 million each, between External Commercial Borrowings (ECBs) and Overseas Foreign Currency Borrowings (OFCBs), according to Mr. Singh.
