At least 20 students from the Government Tribal Welfare Ashram School in Somulagudem have fallen ill, allegedly due to food poisoning, after being served the same dal for both lunch and dinner in the Chintoor Agency of Polavaram district on Sunday (July 26, 2026).

“The dal intended for lunch was served to the students for both lunch and dinner, resulting in health complications a few hours after consumption,” Integrated Tribal Development Agency Project Officer Subham Nokwal told The Hindu.”

“We have admitted 20 girls to the government hospital in Chintoor. They are recovering and responding to treatment,” said Mr. Subham Nokwal, adding that the Ashram School warden has been suspended and an inquiry into the incident has been ordered.
