Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav said that around 1.41 lakh people with heart conditions received free medical treatment worth around ₹996 crore through the NTR Vaidya Seva.

On the eve of World Heart Day on September 29, the Minister in a press statement released on Sunday (September 28, 2025) said that the TDP-led NDA government is aiming at improving infrastructure in hospitals and raising awareness among the public about the importance of early diagnosis for heart ailments.

Mr. Satya Kumar Yadav said that the government has focussed on ensuring that treatment for heart-related problems under NTR Vaidya Seva is available in more hospitals. At present, the treatment is available in 161 hospitals in the private sector and 26 in the government sector. The golden hour treatment is available in 238 hospitals in the State.

He said the treatment for heart attack patients has been made available at all community health centres as well. Blood thinning injections, which are costly, are being provided free of charge through NTR Vaidya Seva in community health centres, he said, adding that this decision has helped save more than 3,000 people.

The Minister said at least 3,402 heart attack victims have been saved, thanks to the timely intervention of doctors and availability of treatment at the mandal-level. He added that out of the total expenses on free medical treatments under the NTR Vaidya Seva, most of it was spent on heart ailments. Since June 2024, the government has provided treatment worth ₹5,562 crore through the NTR Vaidya Seva to 19,61,257 people.

Out of these, 1,41,315 people were treated for heart-related issues. Of these, 45,986 (32.54%) people received stents, 9,880 (6.99%) bypass surgeries, 3,074 (2.18%) valve replacements. Treatments worth around ₹966 crore, 17% of the total expenditure, were provided to them, the Minister said in the statement.

Second to heart ailments is cancer. In the 15 months, 69,926 people received medical treatment through the NTR Vaidya Seva. The number of people who received orthopaedic treatment stands at 2,04,108.
