The directions came in light of the ongoing protests by student unions and the Cockroach Janta Party over the NEET paper leak and the outrage that followed after a lathi-charge by enforcement agencies left several protesters injured.

Speaking to presspersons on Friday, Mr. Saleem said that all senior officers have been directed to ensure that no untoward incidents occur anywhere. “Protests can be held, but participants should ensure that they are conducted in accordance with the law and at places designated for such gatherings,” Mr. Saleem said.

Meanwhile, the Bengaluru Central division police have deployed adequate bandobast at Freedom Park in the heart of the city as the protests have continued for the past six days. A senior officer said that regular meetings are being held to prepare and execute bandobast plans. No untoward incidents have been reported so far.
