Banaswadi police in Bengaluru have registered an FIR against an Instagram user, identified as Hudson, for allegedly posting abusive remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media.

The FIR was registered on July 22 based on a complaint by Abhilash Reddy M (38), president of the BJP unit in Sarvagnanagar constituency.

According to the complaint, Hudson, who allegedly runs Pandyan’s Biryani on a footpath at Kammanahalli, shared an Instagram post through the account ‘madonly’ containing abusive words directed at the Prime Minister over the recent protests by students in New Delhi.

The complainant alleged that the post insulted the Prime Minister, and sought strict legal action against the accused.

Based on the complaint, Banaswadi police registered a case under Sections 196(1)(a) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with Sections 66 and 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and have launched an investigation.

Police said they are verifying the ownership and operation of the Instagram account, and examining the allegedly objectionable content as part of the investigation. No arrest has been reported so far.
