The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) Wandoor constituency committee has openly expressed its dissatisfaction with Revenue Minister A.P. Anil Kumar, the MLA representing the Wandoor Assembly constituency.
At a constituency-level meeting held recently, IUML leaders from panchayats across Wandoor accused Mr. Anil Kumar of sidelining the party after assuming office as Revenue Minister. They said the IUML and its workers had campaigned tirelessly for his victory when he contested the last Assembly election as the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate.
Wandoor, a Scheduled Caste-reserved constituency, comprises the grama panchayats of Mampad, Wandoor, Thiruvali, Chokad, Kalikavu, Karuvarakundu, Thuvvoor, and Porur. Representatives from all these panchayats participated in the meeting and voiced their discontent over the Minister’s approach towards the IUML.
They alleged that the Minister had failed to engage with the IUML or acknowledge the contributions of its workers after taking the office. The leaders also accused him of failing to honour several commitments he had made ahead of the election.
The strongest criticism came from representatives of the Thiruvali panchayat, who alleged that the Minister had gone back on his assurance that a decision would be taken before April 30 on allotting the post of Thiruvali grama panchayat president to the IUML for one year.
Local IUML leaders also expressed concern over the future of their cooperation with Mr. Anil Kumar. Some warned that they would distance themselves from the Minister and refrain from participating in programmes associated with him unless their concerns were addressed.
