A trainee IPS officer booked in a sexual harassment and assault case collapsed at a friend’s residence in Moti Nagar on Monday morning, with doctors at a private hospital ruling out suicide attempt and attributing his condition to excessive alcohol consumption.

Uday Krishna Reddy, who is facing allegations by a fellow woman IPS trainee officer at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), was brought to Jayanthi Super Speciality Hospital around 9.30 a.m. by his brother and friends after he was found unconscious at a family friend’s residence in Erragadda.

Speaking to The Hindu, Dr. Ravishankar Reddy said the family suspected an alcohol overdose and had also noticed a sanitiser bottle beside the bed. “He was not responding and was completely unconscious when he was brought in. We did a stomach wash, and it was clear without any traces of tablets. His blood and urine samples were sent to the laboratory and the reports were negative for drugs. However, alcohol consumption was high,” he said.

The doctor said the trainee IPS officer regained consciousness by afternoon, and an medico-legal case (MLC) was prepared. He was better by Monday evening, though he remained slightly giddy, and his condition was to be monitored for 24 hours.

Reddy’s younger brother told reporters at the hospital that Uday Krishna was found unconscious around 6 a.m. and was rushed to the hospital. The family said Reddy had been under severe mental distress since reports of the sexual harassment case against him began appearing in the media on Sunday. The presence of alcohol and sanitiser bottles in the room had led them to suspect that he may have consumed the two together.

The development came a day after Reddy posted on social media asking the media to verify facts before reporting the allegations against him. He described the complaint as baseless and said he had faith in the legal process.

On Sunday, the Attapur police registered a case against Reddy based on a complaint by a fellow woman IPS trainee. She alleged that he had sent her sexually abusive messages, made derogatory remarks about her before fellow trainees and repeatedly accused her of being in a relationship with another trainee officer.

Meanwhile, police officers from Borabanda, SR Nagar and Sanath Nagar said they had no information about the hospital incident and that no separate case had been registered in connection with it.
