A 46-year-old private firm employee was allegedly cheated of ₹7.46 lakh after his minor son shared one-time passwords (OTPs) with strangers he befriended while playing online games. A case has been registered at the Whitefield Cyber Economic and Narcotics (CEN) Police Station.
According to the complaint filed by a resident of Nallurahalli in Whitefield, his son was playing online games on the complainant’s mobile phone on April 9, 2026, when he came into contact with two individuals identifying themselves as Vinayak Yadav and Yesh Pal.
The accused allegedly convinced the child to log in to email accounts using the complainant’s smartphone and subsequently instructed him to share OTPs received on the mobile number.
The police said the fraudsters allegedly used the OTPs to activate an AutoPay facility on the complainant’s account. Without the complainant’s knowledge, they subsequently debited a total of ₹7,46,591 from his bank account.
After discovering the unauthorised transactions, the father approached the Whitefield CEN police, seeking legal action against the accused and recovery of the lost money.
Based on the complaint, the police have registered an FIR under Sections 66C and 66D of the Information Technology Act and Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Further investigation is on to track down the accused.
