A 53-year-old KSRTC driver was arrested on Saturday on the charge of sexually assaulting a woman passenger in a super fast bus headed for Kollam from Alappuzha.

The accused, identified as Ranjan of the Kayamkulam depot, allegedly harassed the woman while seated beside her on the bus. The incident occurred around 6.30 a.m. when the woman had fallen asleep, the police said.

According to the police, the accused allegedly grabbed the woman, following which she woke up and raised an alarm. He later got off the bus near Karuvatta Cattle Bridge and attempted to flee, but was chased and caught by passengers and local residents.

The bus was taken to the Haripad police station, where the complanant’s statement was recorded and a case was registered.
