District Collector Sumit Kumar on Saturday directed Medical and Health department officials to ensure 100% registration of pregnant women in every Primary Health Centre (PHC) across Chittoor.

Addressing the medical and paramedical staff at a review meeting here, the Collector emphasised that registration must be completed within 12 weeks of pregnancy. “Though we could achieve 80% registrations, we must also concentrate on the remaining 20%, a parameter which is crucial to maintain a perfect health administration,” he said.

Sumit Kumar urged the medical and paramedical staff at the field level to continuously maintain follow-up of high-risk and teenage pregnancies until delivery. “This will ensure that all childbirths take place at government hospitals. Utmost importance should be accorded to monitoring anaemia levels, creating IDs for all pregnant women, and registering every newborn to track timely vaccination,” the Collector said.

Focusing on low MR-1 and MR-2 vaccination coverage in Chittoor district, the Collector instructed officials to mandatorily increase it to 100% by October first week. He cautioned that strict disciplinary action would be taken against officials found to be lax in discharging duties.
