The Karnataka government has finally called for a meeting with apartment owners to consult them on The Karnataka Apartment (Ownership and Management) Bill, 2025, on Wednesday (July 15).
The apartment owners have been urging the government for the enactment of the Bill to bring more clarity regarding ownership and management of apartments in the State. Currently, there is a lot of ambiguity as apartments are governed by the outdated Karnataka Apartment Ownership Act, 1972, and the Karnataka Cooperative Societies Act, 1959.
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar had held the first such meeting on December 13, 2025, as Bengaluru Development Minister and promised a stakeholders’ consultation meeting before the Bill was tabled in the Assembly. However, for over six months, such a meeting never happened. At least two city MLAs had written to Mr. Shivakumar urging him to convene the meeting.
Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda on Tuesday (July 14) announced that a draft of the Bill was ready and before taking it forward, the government would like to seek the views and suggestions of all stakeholders.
He said Mr. Shivakumar would also be present at the July 15 meeting scheduled to be held from 11 a.m. at the Conference Hall, Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium. Mr. Gowda appealed to all apartment owners to participate in large numbers and submit their suggestions.
