Three booked after BLO alleges assault during SIR in Telangana’s Kamareddy

Kamareddy Police have registered a case against three people, including two women, after a Booth Level Officer (BLO) alleged that she was assaulted and prevented from carrying out voter enumeration during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The incident was reported on July 10 when the 42-year-old government official was conducting door-to-door verification as part of the SIR of electoral rolls.

According to the complaint, two women approached the BLO with an enumeration form. While examining it, the official noticed that the mandatory photograph had not been affixed and sought an explanation.

The complainant alleged that one of the women claimed she would not attach a photograph because she was from Bangladesh. The BLO then declined to accept the form. The official alleged that the two women became aggressive, abused her, pushed her and interfered with her official work.

She further claimed that a man later joined them, questioned her refusal to accept the form and allegedly threatened to kill her if she did not do so. During the confrontation, the accused allegedly snatched her mobile phone, damaged it and physically assaulted her.

Following the complaint, police booked the three under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The investigation is in progress.

Police, however, said preliminary verification showed that the woman who submitted the form is an Indian citizen and not a Bangladeshi, contrary to the claim attributed to her in the complaint. Further investigation is underway.
