Residents in several parts of Shivamogga city are having a hard time getting drinking water owing to technical glitches at the Krishnarajendra Water Treatment Plant. The water supply is expected to return to normalcy in a couple of days, as a team of engineers and workers are engaged in the repair work.

Earlier, on July 8, the officers of Shivamogga City Corporation and the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board issued a statement that there was a leakage in the clariflocculator that plays a major role in water treatment. Until the repair is done, water supply in certain areas will be disrupted.

For drinking purposes, every day 84 MLD of water is lifted at the Tunga reservoir at Gajanur near Shivamogga for drinking purposes. The plant treating 22 MLD of water has developed technical glitches warranting urgent work.

Continuing repair works at the Krishnarajendra Water Treatment Plant in Shivamogga, following a leakage in the clariflocculator that plays a major role in water treatment, has disrupted water supply in certain areas.

Shivamogga MLA S.N. Channabasappa visited the plant on Friday (July 10, 2026) and inspected the repair work. Speaking on the occasion, the MLA stated that there was no shortage in availability of water for drinking purposes. However, due to the repair work, the supply had been disrupted. “The machinery in the plant is quite old; some pipelines are rusted.

Around 45 people are working to restore the machinery and ensure normal water supply,” he said. Shivamogga City Corporation has arranged tankers to supply drinking water in the affected areas, the MLA added.

Meanwhile, Congress MLC Balkhees Banu met Deputy Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatti and appealed to him to ensure the supply of drinking water in the affected areas.
