Following an investigation by the Vigilance Bureau in Bihar into recruitment of school teachers from 2006 to 2015, the State government on Friday (July 10, 2026) said that it would dismiss over 3,000 teachers who used fake degrees, forged certificates to secure their job. Besides, the government would also initiate criminal action and recover the salaries paid to them during their service period.

“The Bihar government will dismiss over 3,000 school teachers accused of securing jobs using fake degrees and forged educational certificates during the period 2006 to 2015,” announced Bihar Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwary while speaking to media persons in Patna on Friday.

Based on the findings of the Vigilance probe, several FIRs have also been registered against the accused teachers. The investigation has allegedly uncovered large-scale irregularities, including use of fake degrees from fake educational institutions and forged educational documents to secure their jobs.

“The department has been directed to take stern action against all those found in the fraudulent activities for securing their jobs of school teachers and the decision has been taken following a detailed investigation into teacher’s recruitment done between the years 2006 to 2015,” said the Education Minister. He reiterated that the probe was, earlier, ordered by the then Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and since both the Central and State government today have been following a policy of “zero tolerance” towards corruption, those indulged in the fraudulent activities would not be spared.

“The State government would not only dismiss the accused teachers but also initiate disciplinary proceedings against them,” added the Minister. He further said that “the salaries and honorariums paid to them during the tenure would also be recovered along with applicable interest”.

Education Department officials, meanwhile, alleged that the Vigilance investigation has also found that some teachers have already resigned before disciplinary proceedings could be initiated against them. But, they too would face “departmental action”, the officials asserted. “No one involved in the fraudulent activities would be spared”, they said.

Meanwhile, leaders of the five ruling NDA coalition partners in the State – BJP, JD(U), LJP (RV), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha of Upendra Kushwaha – are meeting in Patna, for the first time after formation of the BJP-led government in the State, at Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary’s official residence to discuss about “better coordination” among them and to “review the government’s welfare works”.

All the district presidents of these parties have been invited to attend. “Such meetings strengthen unity among NDA allies”, said JD(U) spokesperson and leader Neeraj Kumar.
