The Vizianagaram district administration will take up a special campaign on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters’ list on July 11 and 12 in all mandals of the district, amid mounting pressure from the Election Commission of India (ECI) to meet the July 14 deadline for completion of the exercise.

The authorities have distributed around 15.90 lakh enumeration forms to voters in the district. However, digitisation of the filled-up forms is yet to pick up. Around 75% of the upload of forms has been completed.

Non-availability of details of voters who shifted to other places has hampered the SIR process in several places. The government decided to take up the special campaign on July 11 and 12, the weekend, in the hope that all voters would be at home.

Deputy Election Commissioner Pavan Kumar Sarma, Vizianagaram Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy, Joint Collector S. Sedhu Madhavan and other senior officials have been monitoring the SIR process to meet the deadline. The draft voters’ list is to be published on July 21, 2026.

Mr. Ramsundar Reddy asked all officials to focus on the SIR special campaign and ensure absolute transparency in preparing the new voters’ list.

The Opposition YSR Congress Party alleged that the names of Scheduled Castes, minorities and others were being removed from the voters’ list to benefit the ruling NDA parties. YSRCP Vizianagaram district president Majji Srinivasa Rao asked party leaders to be vigilant and ensure enumeration forms were submitted properly to the booth level officers.
