The Principal District and Sessions Judge, Manjunath G.A. on Thursday inaugurated a legal services clinic for women and children at the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Shivamogga. This is said to be the first legal services clinic set up at a CWC in the State.

Mr. Manjunath, speaking on the occasion, said the clinic would provide legal assistance to children and women seeking justice at the CWC. An advocate with experience in handling cases related to the CWC would be at the clinic to assist people. “The children who land in the CWC for various reasons deserve proper care and guidance. Every child deserves proper care and education. The legal services clinic will help children get what they truly deserve,” he said.

M.S. Santhosh, member secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, highlighting the significance of the clinic, said it had been set up as part of the Child Friendly Legal Services Scheme-2024. “Every Monday and Wednesday, an advocate will be in the clinic to offer consultation to people approaching the CWC for justice. Children who are victims of crime will get the necessary guidance,” he said. He also appealed to the public to call the toll-free National Legal Services Authority helpline, 15100, for necessary guidance.

Child Welfare Committee chairperson Tajuddin Khan, Child Protection Officer Shashirekha and others were present.
