State-owned Mysore Sugar Company, also known as Mysugar, will start crushing operations for the 2026-27 season at its premises in Mandya on July 15.

The ceremonial lighting of the boiler at Mysugar, which is considered to be the lifeline of farmers of Mandya, was held on July 8, marking the commencement of preparations for the new crushing season.

The boiler was ignited in the presence of a host of dignitaries, including Deputy Commissioner Kumar, Mysugar Chairperson C. D. Gangadhar, Maddur DCC Bank Chairperson Sachin Cheluvarayaswamy, and factory General Manager Mangal Das, formally signalling the start of operations at the factory.

A symbolic trial run of sugarcane crushing was carried out by feeding cane into ‘A’ Mill.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kumar said the factory was fully ready for operations and that crushing would initially be taken up in ‘A’ Mill, which has a capacity to crush 5,000 tonnes of cane per day.

The management has entered into agreements with farmers to procure 5.44 lakh tonnes of sugarcane during the current season, and has set a target of completing the crushing by the end of November, he added.

Mysugar Chairperson C.D. Gangadhar said, “While the mill has a higher installed capacity, the factory aims to crush 3,500 tonnes of cane per day, and expects a sugar recovery rate of 8.5%. All dues to farmers, who supplied sugarcane during the previous season, have been cleared. This season, payments would be made within 15 days of cane supply.’

On the occasion, incentive cheques of ₹50 per tonne, as announced by the government of Karnataka, were distributed to farmers who had supplied sugarcane during the previous season.

Karnataka State Small Industries Development Corporation Vice-Chairperson Vijayalakshmi Raghunandan was present on the occasion.
