Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] dissident-turned-Independent MLA G. Sudhakaran on Monday (July 6, 2026) lashed out at CPI(M) Kerala State secretary M.V. Govindan, calling him “the real class traitor who presided over the party’s defeats in elections from the local body-level to the Parliament.”

“Mr. Govindan does not deserve to occupy that position. Either he should resign or the party should oust him. Lakhs of people still hold this party dear. I have been with this party since the days of AKG, while the likes of Mr. Govindan are much junior. He has sat at the helm and worked against the party’s interests with an intention to destroy it. The United Democratic Front (UDF) managed to win five seats in his hometown Kannur, yet he is not at all concerned by the state of affairs. As someone who has worked against the interests of workers and farmers, he is theoretically and practically a class traitor,” said Mr. Sudhakaran.

He said that any corrective measures within the CPI(M) under Mr. Govindan’s leadership will be ineffective “as he is incapable of correcting himself.”

Regarding criticism over his support to the Congress, Mr. Sudhakaran said he is an Independent MLA. “I am not part of either the LDF or the UDF. I vote in support of Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan’s positive steps. I still talk for the workers and farmers, unlike the CPI(M) leadership who deceived them. If the Congress is a cesspool according to them, why are they in alliance with the party in Tamil Nadu?” asked Mr. Sudhakaran.

He said the Opposition LDF has been weakened in the Assembly “as there is no one to support” Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan.

Mr. Sudhakaran also rejected as false reports of him criticising Mr. Vijayan and his family.
