A majority of departments are yet to upload G.O.s on the Tamil Nadu government website

Only five of the 38 departments have published their government orders (G.O.s) on the Tamil Nadu government website after the Tamilaga Vettri  Kazhagam (TVK) assumed office on May 10.

The Departments of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Health and Family Welfare, Co-operation, Food and Consumer Protection, Finance, and Public can be called “outliers” as they have hosted their G.O.s issued in May and June on the website.

The orders that are not available on the site pertain to some of the high-profile measures such as the creation of the Singappen Special Force and the provision of 100 additional units of electricity to domestic consumers who use 500 units bi-monthly. Interestingly, the G.O.s on these measures are otherwise available in the public domain.

As for the waiver of crop loans taken by farmers from cooperative societies, the G.O. on the extension of the relief is available on the ‘What’s New’ section and the Tamil version of the ‘Government Orders’ section of the Department of Co-operation, Food and Consumer Protection. But it is not there in the English version of the ‘Government Orders’ section of the department, whose last G.O. in the section pertained to one that was issued on January 25, 2022. For the purpose of this study, only the documents available through the English version of the G.O. section have been considered.

The Home, Prohibition, and Excise Department, which has issued the G.O. concerning the special force, is one of the 10 departments that had published their orders on the site until the enforcement of the model code of conduct for the Assembly election in April-May this year. Its section does not have G.O.s after hosting an order issued on February 27. But the Energy Department belongs to a different group, as it and eight others have not updated their sections in the last one-and-a-half years. All their G.O.s were related to 2024.

In the case of the Energy Department, the last G.O. published was one of October 14, 2024. The number of departments that had published their  G.O.s last in 2025 was 10; in 2023, one, and in 2022, three. The Public (Elections) Department has not published any of its G.O.s issued since June 11, 2015.

A look at the Tamil version of the G.O. section reveals that only a few departments, including Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare, have published their orders.
