Leaders of the APSRTC Joint Action Committee (JAC) held a key review meeting on Sunday to discuss the issues to be taken up during the scheduled meeting with the APSRTC management on July 6 (Monday).

The JAC had earlier served a notice on June 11 and completed the first phase of its agitation programme. As part of the second phase, it has already called upon employees to observe ‘RTC Protection Day’ on July 7 and 8 by wearing ‘demand badges’ while on duty and taking their demands directly to the public.

Meanwhile, the APSRTC management invited the JAC for discussions at RTC House at 3 p.m. on Monday. The meeting will be attended by Transport, Roads and Buildings Special Chief Secretary M.T. Krishna Babu and APSRTC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director N. Balasubramanyam, along with other senior officials.

Ahead of these talks, the JAC conveners and co-conveners held a review meeting through an audio conference on Sunday to finalise the agenda for Monday’s discussions and review preparations for the agitation programme beginning on July 7, according to a joint statement issued by JAC conveners Y. Srinivasa Rao and Palishetty Damodara Rao.

The JAC said it would urge the government to immediately initiate measures to strengthen APSRTC, withdraw the proposal to introduce privately operated electric buses and instead operate all electric buses through APSRTC. It will also demand an increase in the number of buses required for the effective implementation of welfare schemes like ‘Stree Shakti’, immediate recruitment to fill vacant posts to reduce the growing workload on employees and discussions on nearly 30 issues listed in the memorandum submitted by the JAC.

The review meeting was attended by JAC conveners Y. Srinivasa Rao and Palishetty Damodara Rao, along with co-conveners P.V. Ramana Reddy, G.V. Narasayya, C.H. Sundarayya, Katta Subrahmanyam, S.V. Seshagiri Rao, Y. Srinivasa Rao, K. Surya Prakasa Rao and D. Malyadri.
