A scuffle between a woman train ticket examiner and a woman lawyer at Egmore railway station caused tension among the passengers on Saturday (July 4, 2026). Both parties have filed complaints based on which a case has been registered.

A senior official of the Government Railway police said Salma Begum was a train ticket examiner and was on duty at the Egmore railway station. She was involved in ticket checking on suburban platforms 10 and 11.  At that time, a female lawyer Mohana from Mangadu was standing on the platform.

Ticket Examiner Salma Begum asked the lawyer if she possessed a valid ticket, to which the lawyer replied that she had come to see off a friend. Then Salma Begum asked to see a platform ticket, but the lawyer did not have one. Consequently, Salma Begum asked her to pay a fine. This led to an argument and a physical altercation between the ticket examiner and the lawyer. The ticket examiner was injured.

Both parties filed complaints at the Egmore Railway Police Station regarding the altercation. Based on the complaint filed by the Ticket Examiner Salma Begum, the railway police registered a case against the lawyer under two sections of obstructing a public servant from performing their duty and causing injury.

Also based on the complaint filed by the lawyer, the railway police registered a case against the woman ticket examiner for using obscene language, wrongful restraint, causing injury, and criminal intimidation.
