Access to comprehensive cancer care close to home is a significant advantage for patients, said internationally renowned oncologist and Padma Bhushan awardee Dr. Dattatreyudu Nori, who is also Advisor to the Andhra Pradesh government on preventive, curative and affordable cancer care. He was impressed by the infrastructure, patient-friendly facilities and medical services available at Lalitha PVS Institute of Medical Sciences in Guntur during his visit on Thursday.

According to a press release here on Saturday, Dr. Nori observed that hospitals offering integrated cancer care can help patients access multiple diagnostic and treatment services under one roof, reducing the need to travel to distant metropolitan centres.

During his visit, he reviewed the oncology services at the hospital’s Aria Cancer Centre, where the multi-disciplinary treatment model, including cancer prevention, early detection, precision medicine, medical and surgical oncology, pathology, molecular diagnostics and advanced imaging, was presented by the oncology team.

He also visited the Lalitha Wellness Clinic to review cancer screening programmes for men and women and inspected the Radiology Department, including the 3.0 Tesla MRI and Digital Mammography facilities. Hospital officials briefed him on the proposed PET-CT and Radiation Oncology units.

Dr. Nori later interacted with oncologists and patients undergoing treatment at the Chemotherapy Day Care Unit. Hospital chairman Dr. P.V. Raghava Sarma welcomed the visiting specialist and said the interaction would encourage the institution to further strengthen cancer care services in the region.
