The Karimnagar rural police have arrested a 21-year-old youngster for allegedly pushing a 55-year-old woman labourer into a well after robbing her gold mangalsutra and earrings in an alleged attempt to kill her at Nustulapur near Karimnagar on July 1, 2026.

The incident sent shockwaves across the district as the woman labourer, 55, survived a harrowing night inside the well by clinging to a rope tied to motor pipes before being rescued by local farmers early next morning.

The police identified the accused as D. Dinesh Reddy, 21, a second year degree student from Gollapalli village.

According to the police, the accused allegedly took the woman to Nustulapur on the pretext of offering her farm work. He allegedly snatched her mangalsutra and earrings before pushing her into the well.

Police said the accused allegedly landed in a debt trap after incurring losses in online gambling and betting.

In an attempt to clear his debts, he allegedly committed the crime.
