Ammonia gas leak: Death toll rises to 18

The toll in the ammonia leak at a seafood processing and export facility in Tiruvallur district last month has risen to 18, with the death of one more hospitalised woman migrant worker on Friday (July 3, 2026).

The Health Department, in a bulletin, identified the latest victim as Rohani Juanga of Kendujhar in Odisha. Currently, 14 women are undergoing treatment – one each on ventilator support and oxygen support, and 12 stable. A total of 51 persons have been discharged so far.
