District Police Chief (Kozhikode City) A.P. Shoukath Ali has said that the police registered 573 cases and arrested 586 persons in connection with drug-related offences across the district since June 1 as part of Operation Toofan.

During the period, the police seized 6 kg of suspected cannabis and 317 g of suspected MDMA. Four cases involved the possession of commercial quantities of narcotic drugs, while 53 cases were registered for possession of small quantities. Another 505 cases were booked under Section 27 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

“The abandoned Mananchira Comtrust Handloom Weaving Factory has become a hub for anti-social elements. The police have initiated the necessary measures to prevent illegal activities and strengthen surveillance in the area,” Mr. Ali said.

Reckless driving

Following the successful implementation of the Toofan drive, the police will now launch a stringent crackdown on buses involved in overspeeding in the city. Noting that several complaints had been received about reckless driving, Mr. Ali appealed to the public to cooperate with the police in tackling the issue.
