The Andhra Pradesh government has raised the age of superannuation from 60 to 62 years for regular employees working in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), corporations and societies listed under Schedules IX and X of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014. The benefit will apply retrospectively from January 1, 2022, according to G.O. Ms. No. 45 issued by Peeyush Kumar, Principal Secretary, Finance Department, on Thursday (July 2, 2026).

The decision extends to employees of these organisations the retirement age already made applicable to State government employees under the Andhra Pradesh Public Employment (Regulation of Age of Superannuation) (Amendment) Act, 2022.

The government said the move followed many representations from employees, and litigation in which several courts had allowed staff to continue in service up to the age of 62 through interim orders.

Employees who retired on attaining 60 years will be re-inducted or continued in service up to 62 years, wherever applicable. The period between retirement and re-induction will be treated as out of employment without salary, though annual increments during the period will be granted notionally and counted for seniority and promotions.

The order also directs organisations to amend their service rules, consider their financial position before applying the policy, and process pensionary benefits accordingly. Retired employees unwilling to rejoin service may continue to remain retired at 60 years under the applicable rules.
