External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Tuesday (June 30, 2026) spoke with his Irish counterpart Helen McEntee and conveyed his best wishes as Ireland assumes the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Mr. Jaishankar said they also discussed ways to deepen India-Ireland cooperation, including in trade and education.

The Council of the European Union is one of the EU’s main decision-making bodies

Ireland will take on one of the EU’s most influential roles when it assumes the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from July 1 to December 31, 2026, according to the website of the European Commission.
