The Democratic Marxist Front (DMF), a political outfit floated by expelled CPI(M) leader P.K. Sasi along with former party leaders and workers, will expand its activities across Kerala, Mr. Sasi said here on Tuesday. As part of the expansion, the organisation will hold a policy convention in Palakkad on July 6.

CMP leader and Transport Minister C.P. John will inaugurate the convention. T.K. Govindan, UDF MLA from Thaliparamba, will also participate, Mr. Sasi said. “We have decided to move forward in cooperation with the CMP,” he said.

While there were earlier reports that the DMF would merge with the CMP, a constituent of the United Democratic Front (UDF), the DMF leadership said the immediate focus was on strengthening joint political activity rather than pursuing a formal merger.

Upholding Left ideals

Mr. Sasi said the DMF was founded to uphold Left political ideals and to bring together former CPI(M) activists who had left the party. He described his organisation as a platform for those committed to Left politics outside the CPI(M).

The DMF aims to deepen its cooperation with the CMP as a Left-leaning force within the UDF. Discussions with various political leaders on the organisation’s future programmes are also under way, Mr. Sasi said.
