The Kadavanthra police have decided not to register a case over a complaint filed by actor Ansiba Hassan against fellow actor Tini Tom, accusing him of making communal and defamatory remarks against her.

In a report submitted to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ernakulam Central, the station house officer of Kadavanthra stated that the investigators could not find solid grounds to register a first information report following a preliminary investigation, an officer confirmed on Saturday (June 27, 2026).

Ms. Hassan in her complaint had reportedly stated that she came across the defamatory and communal comments made by Mr Tom against her through another actor. The police had recorded the statements of several people including Ms. Hassan, Mr. Tom, former president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) Shweta Menon as part of the preliminary probe. Mr. Tom had refuted the allegations levelled by Ms. Hassan.

Ms. Hassan has, meanwhile, moved a court seeking registration of a case against Mr. Tom.

Ms. Hassan had earlier cited the alleged harassment by Mr. Tom as a reason for her resignation as the joint secretary of the AMMA. A series of controversies and police complaints triggered by the Drishyam actor’s decision to step down from the film forum had led to the recent annual general body meeting of the association during which the Shweta Menon-led executive committee resigned en masse.

The news of the Kadavanthra police’s decision comes close on the heels of Ms. Hassan lodging a fresh complaint with the Palarivattom police against Ms. Menon, former AMMA vice president Lakshmipriya and the owner of an online channel alleging insult defamation through factually incorrect and sexually coloured contents.

In a related incident, Ms. Hassan had earlier approached a court in Thripunithura seeking a direction to register an FIR over another complaint filed by her against Ms. Lakshmipriya and Sub Inspector Reshma of the Thripunithura women’s cell after the Thrikkakara Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) ruled out the possibility of registering a case against the duo in a complaint filed by her.
