Visakhapatnam Member of Parliament M. Sribharat on Thursday unveiled the statue of noted physician and humanitarian Dr. K.S. Prakasa Rao, fondly remembered as the “Two-Rupee Doctor”, and said his selfless service to society would continue to inspire generations.

Addressing a gathering at the ceremony, Mr. Sribharat said Dr. Prakasa Rao had dedicated his life to providing affordable healthcare to thousands of underprivileged people and remained a symbol of compassion and humanity. He said the doctor’s ideals should serve as a guiding light for the younger generation and urged society to carry forward his legacy.

The MP said he had already recommended to the Government of India that Dr. Prakasa Rao be conferred a Padma award in recognition of his contribution to healthcare and society.

Dr. K.V.S. Murthy, son of Dr. Prakasa Rao, said he would continue his father’s mission by offering quality healthcare at an affordable cost of ₹50.

Visakhapatnam South MLA Ch. Vamsi Krishna Srinivas, Simhachalam Devasthanam Trust Board member Peddisetti Ushasri and literary scholar Dwibhashyam Rajeswara Rao attended the programme.
