Nainar Nagenthran accuses T.N. government of ‘deliberately delaying’ assistant professor appointments

BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagenthran on Thursday (September 25, 2025) accused the Tamil Nadu government of deliberately delaying the appointment of assistant professors to government arts and science colleges.

In a statement, he said nearly 4,000 assistant professor posts remain vacant, while the State government has increased the number of guest lecturer posts to 8,000. Instead of filling regular posts, the government was attempting to tide over the crisis by depending heavily on guest lecturers, many of whom are underpaid. The BJP leader claimed there were several infrastructural bottlenecks in many government colleges, including the lack of facilities for drinking water, proper toilets, hostels, food, classrooms, and laboratories. He alleged the State government was indifferent towards government arts and science colleges, which primarily educate the poor and marginalised. “We should put an end to this misrule before our State is pushed into despair,” he said.
