A dog had a lucky escape after its owner rushed to its aid and managed to rescue it from a leopard by trapping the wild animal inside his own house at Moyar in Masinagudi in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) on Wednesday (June 25, 2026) night.

Officials said that the dog, belonging to N. Sivakumar, a resident of Selvappa Colony, was chased into its own home by a leopard. Hearing the commotion, the owner quickly escaped from the house and locked the leopard inside the building, trapping it.

He then informed Forest department personnel, who rushed to the spot and set up a cage at the entrance of the house. They then gently coerced the animal into the enclosure and safely transported the animal to the Sigur forest range nearby, where it was released.
