A number of people-centric online services of the Karnataka government are likely to be hit in a 24-hour window starting from Thursday, as major upgrades are being taken up in the State Data Centre that hosts many government sites.

The services will be hit from 9 p.m. and the shutdown is expected to last 24 hours.

The centre hosts about 69 departments/corporations of the State government, many of which offers public-oriented online services. Among those likely to be affected include Aadhaar appointment, Bhoomi, Mojini, Mobile One, BangaloreOne, KarnatakaOne, challaning of traffic violations by Bangalore Traffic police, Sakala, e-Janaspandana, RTO services and Kaveri, among many others. The survey being conducted by the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes is also hosted by the SDC, according to SDC website.

Government offices are also closed on Friday on account of Muharram.

According to Information Technology and Biotechnology Minister Priyank Kharge, the government is taking up important technical maintenance, infrastructure upgradation and security upgrades at the centre for which its services will be temporarily unavailable. The Minister said that several government web portals, public services, issuance of certificates and other online services could be hit since they are all supported by the centre.

Why it is necessary

Mr. Kharge said that the upgrades were necessary to strengthen digital administration system and increase its capacity, which will also allow speedy delivery of services without any technical glitch. He said that the State had witnessed increase in the number of digital services in recent years, and there was a need for capacity addition.
