Police rescue women beaten up during theft bid in Belagavi

The police rescued two women who were beaten up by a crowd in Benakatti village in Belagavi district on Tuesday after being accused of theft in a jewellery store.

The crowd tied the two women to a pole and assaulted them. They said that the women entered the shop on the pretext of buying gold jewellery and then, tried to steal them by swallowing them.

A few minutes later, someone called the police who arrived on the scene and rescued the women.

The police said that they will register cases of assault against the crowd and robbery against the accused women.
