An interesting exchange unfolded in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Monday when BJP MLA M. Bhojarajan, a first-time member of the House, greeted Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on his birthday and remarked that his wishes were special because he was the eldest member of the Assembly.

His claim surprised many legislators, as he appeared much younger than his age would suggest. DMK member and former Minister S.S. Sivasankar promptly asked him to reveal his age, while several members were seen informally comparing his seniority with that of veteran legislators such as KKSSR Ramachandran and Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan.

Putting the curiosity to rest, Mr. Bhojarajan disclosed he was 79 years old and added, according to Assembly records, he was indeed the eldest member of the House.
